Thatch. Thatch is the ancient craft of building a waterproof roof using dry vegetation. It is one of the oldest surviving building crafts. In England the understanding and skills required to conserve traditional, locally distinct thatch are slowly being lost (Historic England). Over a three-year period Lucy photographed the now rarely practiced processes involved in long straw and heather thatching through northern England.
